Hip Hop Is In Our Body Music Is In Our Soul!

East Africa Cypher (Batabazi, E-wize, Daddy V)

“Hip Hop is in our body, Music is in our Soul”

“Hip Hop is in our body” – A group of guys used to frequently gather in a small basement in Watertown, Massachusetts and do nothing but freestyle and cypher, expressing themselves through free thought in Hip Hop. The year was 2007, when some of these guys decided to form a hip hop group known as “Batabazi Warriorz”. In 2009, the “warriorz” was truncated and they became known as “Batabazi” simply translated as wanderers or warriors and like they say, the rest is history.

“Music is in our soul” – Fast forward, Batabazi has shown their versatility by recording music traversing and fusing several genres such as Hip Hop, R&B, Reggae & Afrobeats. Such songs include, Turn it Up, Dirty Shame, Cheater, Sweep, Uganda Nka (remix), Buuka, Mikono Juu, This is Hip Hop, Binsobedde, Set it Off etc

“Hip Hop is in our body” – Recently, while in Dallas, Batabazi felt an itch to go back to where it all started, freestyling and doing cyphers, this time however, they decided to take it a notch higher and  record a quality video to complement the cypher. They recorded the cypher with fellow Ugandan, E-wize and Kenyan, Daddy V. A bit of a background on E-wize, he formally was with a Ugandan Hip Hop group known as “Urban Life”  in the late 90s (around ’98). The group consisted of him, Wordstorm, Lyrical G, JT (Yego) and Krukid (now known as Ruyonga). Back to the the cypher, it was done to highlight some of what East African Hip Hop artists based in the USA have to offer, this cypher has been dubbed “East African Cypher”. The cypher beat was made by Batabazi’s producer, Tha Mayor and the video was directed & produced by Molek Ular & E-wize. What is a cypher, some of you might ask? In hip hop, a cypher refers to something like a jam session in which everyone, in this case, rappers, contributes to the creative experience one after another. The cypher may be a freestyle or quickly written. That said, here is the East Africa Cypher with Batabazi, E-wize & Daddy V. Hope you enjoy it and comments are very welcome. Make sure to check out and subscribe to the Batabazi official Youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/ugwarriors.
